Qwerk Start
Thursday, 24 August 2006
Congratulations and thank you for purchasing a Qwerk robot controller! If you just received your Qwerk and would like some pointers about where to get started, please read on.
We're assuming that you want to use Qwerk as part of the Telepresence Robot Kit. CMU has put together an excellent website and quickstart guide to get you on your way. In particular, you may want to hook up a battery or power supply to your Qwerk to get it up and running. You can use a standard 7.2V NiMH or NiCd battery pack available at Radio Shack, Toys R Us or Tower Hobbies. But you most likely want to build a robot. The "Qwerkbot" is probably the easiest robot to build for now. CMU has put together a detailed step-by-step recipe here. Additionally, CMU has other recipes that you may be interested in implementing. Be sure to check this page periodically, as new recipes will be added.
The Qwerk Hardware Guide is available here. Since this is a new product, we are busily working on more documentation to make your experience as fulfilling as possible. If you have questions about the hardware, feel free to post them on our Qwerk forum. Software questions can be posted on CMU's TeRK forum. If you aren't sure which forum to post to, don't worry! Your question will be answered regardless. Also check out our Qwerk FAQ section. Software related questions can be found in CMU's FAQ. CMU has also compiled a list of known issues. And, of course, feel free to
directly with your questions, concerns, or comments. We want to hear from you!
Thank you again for choosing Qwerk/TeRK and welcome to a unique and growing community of web-enabled robots and gadgets. We hope you build something amazing!
